Priorities

Regular visitors to this site (assuming there are some) might have noticed that it’s been silent here for about seven weeks. There’s a good reason for that. I had a baby girl about seven weeks ago.

It’s not that I didn’t see it coming. I full intended to have some content in the can so it wouldn’t look like I’d gone missing. But my little one was eager to get life started, so much so that she came about five weeks early.

There are times when writing, and even helping others, have to take a back seat to other priorities. That precious girl is, of course, the most important thing in my life right now (and will continue to be probably for the rest of my life). Understandably taking care of her has become my main focus.

That doesn’t mean I’m abandoning this website or that I don’t still aim to provide plenty of great information to those of you who are looking to build your freelancing careers. In fact, this experience has made me all the more certain that freelancing is a great way for parents to make money and get to spend time with their kids.

It just means I might not be around as often or as regularly as I used to be for a little while. I hope that will change really soon, once we get this little one a little more used to being in the outside world (and napping during the day).

In the meantime, I hope you’ll take some time to think about your priorities when it comes to your freelancing career and your life. Are you doing what will best serve both? What actions might you start taking to make your priorities, well, more of a priority?
